“You don’t have to listen”
I have studied sport for all of my adult life including a degree in health & exercise and it has always been one of the things I talk passionately about. I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by good knowledgeable people all my sporting life and have learnt more talking to people who train or understanding people’s training than I ever did in school or university. Having the backing of science and facts does help and that’s where I can finally use my degree and the endless modules of nutrition and further studies I undertook.
What works for someone though may not work for you. It has taken me more than 15 years to understand my body and it’s requirements, experimenting with diets and different training methods, but this is a process I actually enjoyed.
As far as nutrition goes, I’m not a qualified nutritionist so won’t ever put meal plans together for you BUT I can tell you what has worked for me and what will likely work for you. Your nutrition will be key in your journey so don’t neglect it. I’ll never suggest or recommend not eating the foods you want. Just be sensible. Energy balance in and out – you’ll hear that a lot from me.
My experiences in sport range from being a professional footballer at schoolboy level to going on to playing rugby at semi-professional level for over 12 years. I’ve also represented the County at tennis, cricket, athletics and i’m even alright at darts but who’s counting.
I started personal training once I’d left university at your everyday gym, similar to a Virgin or Nuffield (it was actually Esporta where I started) and pretty much hated it. My no bullshit approach didn’t go down well when I was simplifying things for people. I felt like everyone wanted a miracle answer to suddenly help them on their journey but it is never as easy as that.
I stopped personal training very quickly but my interest in this area never wavered as I consistently read and studied health & fitness in all aspects since.
I enjoy a drink, and love eating out – I wish I could say I don’t like all takeaways and fast foods but I do, and only at 34 years old have I managed to balance it all and find that key balance between (here we go again) energy balance in and out.
I know what it’s like to walk aimlessly around the gym, do a bit of this, bit of that – that has been me and I hated it. I want to eliminate that for you with rolling 4 week programmes that you can opt in and opt out for you. Your training programmes will be varied and carry hard work but they will be tailored to you and your goals.
